Being an entrepreneur is a full-contact sport. You are the business, so how you treat yourself directly shows up in your results. Coming from a guy (me) that has spent 9 years pulling troops broken bodies off battlefields and training exercises gone sideways, 7 years in cardio/vascular dealing with many individuals that decided to destroy themselves eating trash and doing most of their days nestled in comfy chairs, several years in Trauma with some of the people that you feel you have to say “YOU DID WHAT” to, and going on 8 years of Medical Research on Live Humans that I still do Part-Time. Here's your quick reminder of some very, very simple Important stuff that, when implemented, helps you a bunch and tends, over time, to make you feel great:

The Top 5 Non-Negotiables

1. Sleep Like It's Your Job
7–9 hours isn't laziness; it's strategy. Your brain consolidates ideas, solves problems, and resets during sleep. Skimping on it is like running your best software on a dying battery. Abuse this one and your IQ takes a temporary dive, and long-term, you're strengthening your road to a future of dementia. Bad for business. Maybe try setting an alarm to go off to remind you to shut it down at night and hit the “Sealy Posturepedic” instead of the wakeup alarm part.

2. Eat Like You Mean It
Fuel matters. Junk in, junk out. Lean proteins, real vegetables, healthy fats (assure some LONG CHAIN OMEGA 3’s), and enough water to keep your brain firing and your energy steady. Skip the sugar crashes; they're productivity killers, and Cancer LOVES SUGAR- LOVES IT.

3. Guard Your Attitude Fiercely
Your mindset is your most valuable business asset. Negativity, stress without management, and toxic people will drain you faster than any bad quarter. Protect your mental space like you protect your bank account. Only Superman allowed, no “Cream Puff People” allowed in the Entrepreneur space; don’t wish it were easy, wish you were better.

4. Move Your Body
Even 20–30 minutes of physical activity daily is a game-changer. Exercise reduces stress, boosts creativity, sharpens focus, and builds the physical stamina that long entrepreneurial days demand. No gym required (although it is more ideal), just move and lift some heavy stuff here and there. Get up out of that chair as you're folding your blood vessels and impeding flow for however long you're on your six (butt). I just got done this 3rd week of May with filling in vacation time for a surgical nurse doing vascular cleanouts (surgery on blood vessels in lower extremities) and lots of 2-foot clots in the long-time sitters and smokers roto rooted, as usual. Took the grinder to those vessels, and you don’t want the grinder inside of your arteries/legs. Don’t love that chair so much, champ.

5. Own Your Recovery
Rest isn't a reward; it's maintenance, slick. Taking breaks, unplugging, and allowing real downtime isn't weak. It's what keeps you from burning out before the big wins arrive.

My takeaway

Nobody else is going to manage your sleep, your plate, your attitude, or your body for you. That's your job, slick. The sharpest entrepreneurs treat self-care as a competitive advantage, not an afterthought. Take care of your money maker.

Your ideas, your energy, your decisions, your resilience- they all flow from how well you maintain you. Take care of the machine. The machine takes care of the business.
